Five Minute Nose Job - Injection Rhinoplasty
What is Injection Rhinoplasty?
Injection Rhinoplasty, Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty, or the 5 Minute Nose Job ™, was first described by Canadian plastic and cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Steven Mulholland. It is a simple procedure used to lift or straighten the tip of the nose, camouflage a bump, or correct a deviated nasal bridge by injecting synthetic fillers into the aesthetic unappealing regions of the nose. The procedure can also be used to make a wide bridge or round tip appear more narrow and defined.
Who is a candidate?
Anyone with a mild to moderate nasal hump, irregularity, or deviation who does not desire an invasive surgical procedure is a candidate for injection. This procedure is a clinical option for patients who have a flattened nasal bridge (upper dorsum) and/or a broad, poorly defined nasal tip and dorsum. The procedure improves the definition of the nose, and increases the height of the nasal bridge, resulting in a much-improved profile.
This procedure can bring a more balanced look to your face. It may enhance your appearance and give you more self-confidence. The best candidates for this procedure are patients who are looking for temporary improvement, not perfection, in the appearance of their nose. If you are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in your expectations, you are a good candidate.
What is recovery like?
Patients may return to work immediately after the procedure. The results are instant and very fulfilling. There may be typical minimal swelling, bruising, or pain. Like other fillers most patients experience little if any side effects. No pain medications are necessary in 99% of patients. We recommend avoiding trauma or injury to the nose during the first few days after the injection.
Tell me about the results
We want our patients to be involved in the contours created and reshaping of the nose by the procedure. The injectable filler used is injected in small amounts and in specific locations of the nose. During the procedure you will be asked to look at your nose and provide feedback, meaning that you have total control over the end result. The results are immediate and last from eight months to two years, depending on the type of filler that is used.
Tell me about the safety of the procedure
Injection Rhinoplasty or the “five minute nose job” avoids the risks of invasive nasal surgery and is considered temporary. The length of the cosmetic effect typically last four (4) to six (6) months or longer depending on the type of synthetic filler used. Surgical Rhinoplasty with a facial cosmetic or plastic surgeon is the only permanent method of correcting any nasal deformity.
This office-based procedure has no effect upon the normal physiologic function of the nose, since it involves only injection into the skin and superficial regions. This temporary procedure is considered more precise than surgical Rhinoplasty because specific corrections to nasal skin tissues are achievable. During the procedure, you are fully awake and it is desired that you give immediate feedback to the injector. Rarely are complications experienced with the procedure .
The procedure is considered temporary, it is done with topical anesthesia, but some minor discomfort may be experienced. The procedure is completed with FDA approved fillers and products.
What are the costs of the procedure?
The cost of the procedure is dependent upon the specific filler used. For Juvederm for instance, the procedure runs less than $800 depending. Our office utilizes many filler that are approved by the FDA. For our patients, we recommend using long acting injectable soft tissue fillers such as Radiesse®.
And with this injectable filler, our patients don't have to wait to see results, they are immediate and long-lasting. In fact, published independent studies show that a typical Radiesse® treatment for injection Rhinoplasty or correcting post- rhinoplasty defects can last up 12-18 months. At OC Aesthetics we like to describe this procedure as a "nice, little quick fix" but the results can be quite dramatic.
